Belus Skipper
Phocides belus

Observation date: June 25, 2013
Date notes: I am certain of the date.
Submitted by: scout515
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: The flower is from the tea mangrove tree (Pelliciera rhizophorae). The butterfly was on the Terraba river, about 4 km east of the pacific, in Costa Rica. The tea mangrove is endangered. I wanted to photo the mangrove hummingbird that feeds on this flower.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: The two large white blocks making up the middle FW band are a good match for the Belus Skipper, which is found in Costa Rica.
