Observation notes: This moth appeared to me at my doorstep on Wednesday morning. It stayed in the same spot for over 24 hours. On day two she (I assume!) was joined by a male (another assumption...) They remained in close contact for many hours. The following morning the male remained. He flew off some time later.

Coordinator notes: Though both the tulip tree silkmoth (Callosamia angulifera) and the similar promethea moth (C. promethea) may be found in your area, and the females of the two species can be rather difficult to distinguish from one another, particularly from the underside, your account allows me to determine this individual as not C. angulifera, but as C. promethea. Promethea males fly during the day, angulifera during the evening.
