Coordinator notes: Hi Don. My thinking about differences between Apodemia duryi and mejicanus have shifted (and sharpened). the character-pairs of green eyes with unicolor orange dorsal HW (duryi) and grey eyes with bicolor HW dorsum (mejicanus) seem to hold true for every usable image I've reviewed from Texas and New Mexico. Apodemia mejicanus everywhere else in NM has grey eyes, so I think yours is that, too. the dorsal HW seemed bright enough when I first approved it as duryi, but I now see that it has a dark orange basal/median area and bright orange postmedian. it's a bit of a qualitative character (not like green vs grey eyes). this conversation will probably continue, also in iNaturalist, I hope this is not too confusing and I hope full clarity will be the result in the end. got any more photos?
