Arge Tiger Moth
Apantesis arge

Observation date: May 02, 2013
Submitted by: USMCWife1120
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: This moth was resting on my door frame mid-day during cloudy, windy, extremely humid weather in North Texas very near the Southern border of Oklahoma. We have Bradford Pear Trees and one large Oak in our front yard, and we live in the country. It's gorgeous, so I'm curious as to what it is.

Coordinator notes: Coordinator 1: Grammia arge or Grammia doris? Need to see hindwings or abdomen. Coordinator 2: On Moth Photographers group website, photos of G. doris show reddish upper legs and photos of G. arge legs are black with whitish uppers The sighting specimen legs are black with white uppers. Also, MPG photos show a frequent strong pink blush to wing color in G. arge, which is less evident in most photos of G. doris. Given these notes, I believe this is G. arge.
