Observation notes: At the edge of a patch of fairly dense patch of mixed thorny scrub (Prosopis, Parkinsonia, Sambucus, etc.) Observed as pictured, resting about 8 feet above the ground. Insect did not move while being observed. It's a 14x zoom shot with an old Canon A470, taken one-handed while holding a dog on a leash. Not great, but not bad for the circumstances. Weather clear, warm (~90°F) very slight breeze, ~11am MST. Other butterflies in the vicinity today: American snout, Queen, Gulf fritillary, western pygmy blue, painted lady, California patch, Giant swallowtail, dainty sulfur, 2 unidentified skippers.
