Observation notes: based on the elongated blue anal spot (which far exceeds the height of the adjacent orange spot), lack of a distinctive black cap on the anal blue spot, irregularly widened shape of the postmedian wing spots, as well as association with hickory, this is caryaevorus. Fluttered down out of a Large Shagbark Hickory Tree on the edge of a large cow pasture to have a look at me.
The pasture is bordered by various mature hardwood trees including many Hickory trees. I had encountered the Hickory Hairstreak at this site a few times in the past. This individual was well past it's prime.
