Observation notes: Satyrium edwardsii meridionale was described by Ron Gatrelle in 2001 and is recognized widely as a subspecies occuring in the sandhills of the southeastern U.S (See Cech and Tudor, Butterflies of the East Coast, page 109. Also see Gatrelle's original description at the International Lepidoptery Survey on-line.
