Observation notes: Callophrys Dumetorum on Deer Weed host plant in Edgewood Park, San Mateo County, on Upper Ridgeview Loop trail on a sunny afternoon.
Status: Resident
Verified by: Ken Davenport
Verified date: April 15, 2012
Coordinator notes: Based on hostplant and nature of the antennae, this would be the common California Perplexing Hairstreak which based on a ruling by the ICZN will be going under the name Callophrys dumetorum again, while what has been called Callophrys dumetorum will again be called Callophrys viridis the Coastal Green Hairstreak. Both are in your county. BAMONA has not adjusted the names yet, but I know the facts since I am personally involved in the action taken in the case. Names were returned to their pre -1998 standing and usage.
