Observation notes: On trail to Crystal Lake, S of Box Lake, Payette National Forest, Valley County, ID. Elev approx 6500 ft. Forest habitat. Several hundred individuals observed throughout the day while hiking to and from Crystal Lake - greatest concentration at the summit above the lake, nectaring on yellow composites in forest openings. Some seen flying high in the foliage of Pinus sp. trees. It is not unusual for large populations to be observed in Valley County and forested areas of Boise County. During 2010 and 2011 outbreaks were even observed in more urban areas of Ada and Canyon Counties.
