Evergreen Bagworm Moth
Thyridopteryx ephemeraeformis

Observation date: August 18, 2006
Submitted by: Mary Franceline...
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Cocoon was on a young blue spruce tree among a number of others. Having seen the damage these critters can do to other trees (stripping several young evergreens bare), I plucked it off. Caterpillar's head began to emerge. Sunny day. Damage must be done at night as I did not see any active caterpillars during day except the one emerging after being plucked, just saw area of begun destruction.
