Pearl Crescent
Phyciodes tharos

Observation date: August 11, 2011
Submitted by: iowafirebird
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: It seemed that the two were mating. Then, the larger one spent a lot of time on a yellow flower while the smaller fluttered to the ground and was very still. This was between 6 and 7. I went back later -maybe around 8 and the smaller one was still very still on the ground. This is in an area that is allowed to grow wild just south of I-80 next to the mall.
