Great ash sphinx
Sphinx chersis

Observation date: August 14, 2011
Submitted by: drmonson
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: The critter was crossing the service road/catrack that I was hiking on. He was approximately 2 1/2 inches long. He was headed to the sage/sub alpine fir/lodgepole pine community. He did not really appear to have markings on his sides any more than you can see is this photograph. Clear hot day. Dry conditions.

Coordinator notes: After looking at this for a bit I'm in agreement with the submitter. There are sightings all around Idaho, so it's probably resident, but I can't say for sure.
