Observation notes: 7 August 2011 - Garden Tiger Moth or Great Tiger Moth (Arctia caja). I found it on a section of wet tar in front of my garage around 10:00 this morning.It's wingspan is about 3 inches long.The emperature outside was 73 degrees and it was cool, damp, and hazy. We had a big thunderstorm/rainstorm the previous evening.
7 August 2011 - Garden Tiger Moth or Great Tiger Moth (Arctia caja) . Here is another pretty moth that I found on a section of wet tar in front of the garage around 10:00 this morning. Look how the colors of it stand out after it landed on my foot! It's markings on the upper wings reminded us of a giraffe. It's wingspan is about 3 inches long.Temperature outside was 73 degrees and it was cool, damp, and hazy.
