Zarucco Duskywing
Erynnis zarucco

Observation date: July 09, 2011
Submitted by: Julius
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: None.
Status: Unknown
Verified by: stephen stedman
Verified date: July 10, 2011
Coordinator notes: This somewhat worn female strongly exhibits at least one trait of E. zarucco--in the cluster of four apical spots near the forewing apex, the one farthest from the leading edge is displaced toward the apex quite noticeably. Ron Gattrelle used this feature to i.d. a duskywing that I photographed in South Carolina many years ago; that is my only experience with this species. If this is a valid feature of E. zarucco, then the i.d. may be a good one; if not, then this i.d. may need to be revisited by persons with more expertise than I have with species in this extremely difficult genus.
