Observation notes: Sunny day with temp in low 70's. Nectar plants were abundant as well as mud and/or wet soil, and several groups of the butterflies were observed "puddling". This was a different area of CVNWR from photos 1 and 2, where no puddling opportunities were observed. Photo 3 shows some of the variation in ventral hindwing spot. Photo 4 shows the dorsal side of one butterfly.
