Montana Six-plume Moth
Alucita montana

Observation date: May 24, 2011

Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I live in Southern Manitoba. Recently these very small and delicate (about 1/4" wingspan) moths have been appearing in my house. The seem to be near the kitchen area.I have gone through my cupboards and have not been able to find any trace of them yet every day I find one resting on the wall, or as the picture shows on the curtains. It has been a cold spring, In the last week I have found 3 of them. They all appear exactly the same. When I remove them they leave behind a little outline of dust. They seem to have good perception as when I get near them they will fly to another location. Any help in identifying them would be greatly appreciated!
