Observation notes: Found on a dry, sunny day in the shade of an oak tree, crawling in oak leaves. Nearby plants include herbs, iris, and angel's trumpet. The pic is not too sharp, but the color is true. The caterpillar had no hairs/spikes/fur, and no distinguishing features like horns or a tail.
