Observation notes: Found in Hutchinson, Reno County, Kansas, in the heat of the day by my wife. It sat on our fence for a considerable amount of time before I placed a stick under it and lifted it onto my shirt. It sat on my shirt pocket as I came inside and researched the moth on the internet. We chose to release it into our sweet gum tree instead of freezing it for my son's 4th grade insect project that he has to do next September. The hi-res pictures we took will have to do. This is only the 2nd luna moth I have seen in my 36 years, the 1st being last summer.
