Coordinator notes: I would definitely put this butterfly with Speyeria aphrodite with the especially bright orange, lack of dusty color on hind wings as well as a lack of strong markings. As far as subspecies I'd say this is a female Speyeria aphrodite ethne/mayae - intergrade between S. aphrodite ethne ranges out from Rocky Mtn foothills from WY and S. aphrodite mayae which ranges into northern SD. Resembles S. aphrodite ethne more strongly.
