Observation notes: This moth? was located in a rock garden after watering by a sprinkler system. It was sitting on a ground cover plant called a Creeping Jenny (aka Charlie). It was so bright it caught my eye. It is about an inch long, maybe a little less. It's wings were initially spread a bit, probably to dry. when I gently touched it, the wings closed up to what you see in the picture. The blue color in the picture is very faded. I couldn't seem to capture the color better but it's a very bright blue. It's orange color is also showing as faded and is more like the color of it's head. It was almost like a reflective glare from the wings was happening that washed the color out. It's very bright and beautiful. I'm always in the gardens watching for bugs and things and I've never seen this guy before. We have clear skies but heavy smoke today from surrounding wildfires in Washington State and BC. The temperature was about 17 degrees Celsius, no wind. The temp over night was about 10 Celsius.
