Acmon Blue
Plebejus acmon

Observation date: July 26, 2026
Submitted by: ezeemonee
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Female on Wright’s Buckwheat flowers near one of the Northeast ridges of Tehachapi Mountain around 7000 ft elevation. Small sized for Icaricia. Curious as to what species this is. It ignored nearby Sulphur Buckwheat and stayed on or close to Wright’s Buckwheat. Probably not I. Chlorina. May just be a regular female Acmon, which came up from elsewhere on the mountain. But with the presumed host plant affinity with Wright’s Buckwheat, this is recorded to be a host plant for the Texanus subspecies of Acmon Blue from other mountains described in Butterflies of Southern California 2018. Note the very white abdomen! Thanks for the subspecies tip to Opossumprincess from iNat. Partly cloudy day in the 70’s F.
