Observation notes: I am unsure of my identification. Fritillaries confound me. Photo colors are pretty close to what I observed. Altitude is approximately 4050 feet according to AI. Sorry the ventral photos are not better, someone walked up spooked the butterfly. One butterfly nectaring on Clasping-leaf Arnica. Waterfall tumbles down a granite face with arnica and moss growing along the sides of the falls. Location: Parker Creek Falls paved pullout. Habitat: woodsy, paved roadside pullout at a small waterfall. Mossy, moist granite wall and brushy road shoulders. This is the first year I have seen water dripping down the mossy granite face.
