Coordinator notes: Your ID is technically correct for the information in hand most people would have but genetic analyses has recently reordered the Mormon Metalmark complex and found several species and not just two or three. Your area and southward (including the San Luis Valley and into northern New Mexico) is genetically the separate species level taxon Apodemia pueblo (was Apodemia mormo pueblo or A. mejicanus pueblo). It has gray eyes...as I think A. mejicanus also does but occurs mostly in northern (Old) Mexico (A. mormo has green eyes). More to come I am sure. I do not think I have seen one of these on clover for nectar. Was there any James Buckwheat nearby? That is the host plant...must have been some not far away...maybe not blooming yet though it should be...Eriogonum jamesii). Mike
