Observation notes: I'm not sure what other one it would be that has such green underwings. But they were out last month -- would they still be around? Or is this a very green Coronis?

Coordinator notes: Your ID is correct...a female...and really going down into that thistle flower for food! The Speyeria (Fritillaries) fly for a long time...especially female... as long as they have nectar-food sources. Some survive into late summer as some species do not lay eggs right away after mating...they aestivate afterward and lay their eggs in late summer, often after the violets have dried up (...Aphrodite, Coronis and Edwards' are the main ones...and Callippe...because they use dry land violets that are not moisture dependent).
