Western Pine Elfin
Callophrys eryphon

Observation date: May 16, 2026
Submitted by: Chrustay
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Very, very dry with only a few nectar sources. One of only very few species that I saw in the area. At least three, maybe four, in a small 0.2 square mile area. I watched one for about 10 minutes and it never strayed more than about 10m from where I first observed it.
Status: Resident
Verified by: stevecary
Verified date: July 02, 2026
Coordinator notes: their deep-rooted perennial hosts (pines) may fare better than other plants in drought.
