Observation notes: I believe this to be the darker summer variant. It's very dark, almost black. Was fluttering around my porch light late last night then landed on a hanging hook and stayed perched there overnight. Still there this morning seemingly unmoved aside from its antennae appearing drooping or maybe in a resting state this morning. This moth was smaller that other of the same species I believe I have seen before. Wingspan approx 5". On a wooded property with many trees, including tulip trees. We have a lot of undisturbed leaf litter in our woods.
