Observation notes: Observed more than 20 individuals along the trail through American Flats. Very active, flying around and sunning, observed all the way up to about 13000 ft of elevation. Fairly windy, but observed butterflies flying even during strong gusts.

Coordinator notes: Your suggested ID as E. anicia is correct...ssp. brucei (the name for this checkerspot in the high altitude)...and I think this is probably what the pupa was you submitted and I sent to "cannot identify"...one of my guesses and I see that you have another submission with another pupa photo that I will ID as brucei based on the location and this adult submission...they fly early...perhaps the earliest flyer in the high altitude.
