Observation notes: Brown skipper nectaring from an Engelmann prickly-pear flower growing from exposed bedrock, at the historic reservoir site, along the Arroyo Trail of the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument. The morning was warming, under full sun, and windy.

Coordinator notes: not many visible marks on this gray-brown guy. The ventral hindwing marks are not super visible, but consistent with Viereck's. I see three tiny pale spots near the leasing edge of the forewing. I think I can see another white spot peering out from under hindwing in a location consistent with the cell spot of Viereck's. and I think this skipper is not tiny, based on its size relative to the prickly pear flower. all that is pretty tenuous evidence for Viereck's, but that's the best I can do.
