Observation notes: Near Point Loma Lighthouse National Monument. Partly cloudy day in the 70’s F with sea breezes. Should be the Pt Loma subspecies "near Garthi" according to Butterflies of Southern California 2018, and the ID point of its blended forewing black marginal markings instead of check marks. On the California Buckwheat host plant, mostly. A very skittish butterfly that kept flying away when I approached. It took a while to get decent photos. Interesting that the nearest colony or similar colony is on Cedros Island in Mexico, halfway down the Baja California peninsula!
