Large Orange Sulphur
Phoebis agarithe

Observation date: April 20, 2026
Submitted by: gregslak
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Amid decorative plantings hosting numerous butterflies, was this large, pale yellow individual with very few markings. In my only shot with open wings, the body appeared to be rather large, particularly the abdomen.
Status: Resident
Verified by: Ken Davenport
Verified date: April 22, 2026
Coordinator notes: This species has essentially moved into Southern California, there were only 4 or 5 records for the state before 2009, These are subspecies fisheri from Baja California-Ken Davenport Females can be orange, white, peach or somewhat yellowish. The markings on the forewing told me this was agarithe.
