Observation notes: During the couple hours we were strolling the footpaths of the "Skillet Handle" at the Running Y Resort (bordering Upper Klamath Lake), we saw many hundreds of these Orangetip butterflies cruising low to the ground, among the open, grassy oak woodlands. Weather was very warm and lots of sunshine. The butterflies were relatively fast flying, seldom landing, so they were hard to photograph! But one female did land to feed on the dainty, 1/4 -inch-wide flower of "Slender Phlox" (Phlox gracilis).
