Observation notes: Three butterflies in my garden. Chasing, doing upward spiral. One settled on Pieris japonica shrub and extended its proboscis to the flower stalk and sat sipping for a while. At least 2 butterflies still in the garden on March 28, 2026. I have been seeing butterflies that look like California Tortoiseshells in flight various places I go birdwatching for the last two weeks. Perhaps another big year for this butterfly?

Coordinator notes: Sandy: I even saw one where the southern Sierra meets the Mojave Desert in Yucca Giant Skipper territory....also a Milbert's Tortoiseshell there. Strange things this year-Ken Davenport
