Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Looking for identification. Seen in a prairie habitat surrounded by a mountainous coniferous forest in Kings Canyon National Park. A deep mauve/copper color, with very faint white dots on the underwing. I don't mind an identification at just species level, though I believe it can be identified to subspecies.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: Some (many) place this in the gryneus species complex). Since I am familiar with butterflies in Sequoia and King Canyon National Park after doing research on butterflies there under permit, I think its a nelsoni, an Incense Cedar associated resident.-Ken Davenport
