Dainty Sulphur
Nathalis iole

Observation date: February 15, 2026
Submitted by: KevinN
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: An observation on this date seems extremely late; from what I have read, the latest observation in this area is around Dec. 10. It was sunny and 59˚. It has been unusually warm this winter. I disturbed the butterfly while hiking and it flew low to the ground on the trail in front of me.

Coordinator notes: Yes Kevin...your suggested ID is correct...this individual looks like a male. It appears that the Dainty Sulphur has survived our winter this year...the first time so recorded. There were a couple of observations just a few days into January...and one on Dec. 31st. (Note: Observation records are considered "late records" before the end of a year and "early records" generally before the end of March the present year, so your record is an early record rather than a late one). We don't actually know that this hasn't actually happened in past fairly mild winters or not but is finally brought to attention because of the greater number of active observers spending time outdoors with cameras...such as yourself ! Thanks very much for your submission to BAMONA. Mike
