Observation notes: Seen while doing butterfly surveys for Jefferson County Open Space. Mike Fisher asked me to post it here. Only got one photo before it flew away - very FAST butterfly.

Coordinator notes: Thanks for the post Julia...looks like this was a female in very good condition...questionable as to whether it was locally grown but quite possible. The host is Hackberry (Celtis) of which there are many trees in the canyons below the site of the photograph. You should not worry about hiding the location. This was a good fly-in year for Snouts but you may go back to the same place again, and again, and again year after year and never see another at that place. That was just a total chance encounter.
