Observation notes: Near a floodlight on my deck. I had this tentatively marked as Acronicta increta. iNaturalist idenified it as Acronicta tristis (had Acronicta modica and Acronicta increta as 2nd and 3rd options). After looking at all 3 possibilities I'm now inclining toward tristis. It seems more heavily patterned than increta exemplers and lacks the anal dash and light line at subterminal line seen in modica exemplers. But I know these are tough to ID.
