Observation date: September 19, 2025

Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Sunny with intermittent cloud cover, mid 70s, significant rainfall a couple of days earlier, Soledad Canyon waterfall flowing, mix of annual forbs/bushes/trees, morning glories and goldeneye asters in bloom. Other than ever present hackberry emperors, there was an occasional skipper and a red spotted purple. Conditions seemed great so I was expecting a more populated butterfly presence. The Question Mark landed on sun lit stone, opened and closed its wings repeatedly, and allowed me several shots. I did not observe it nectaring or taking nutrients from damp earth.
