Observation notes: I noticed this caterpillar over a week ago feeding on a Willow Oak sapling. It didn't seem to do a lot of damage to the tree and ate all the leaves from about 8" of the small branch. I did not see it go into a cocoon or chrysalis. I would like to know how to recognize this stage so that I don't damage the caterpillar while planting the tree in the ground.
