Observation date: August 12, 2025
Submitted by: Cascade Colors
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Though it doesn't seem to have much of a black border on the lower wings. It also seems purely gray underneath which resembles the Gray Comma more, but it seems the Gray would have very distinctive black bordering? Plus chevrons on the under upper wing that I don't see?

Coordinator notes: A male Hoary Comma...aka Zephry Comma (or Anglewing...Polygonia gracilis zephyrus). Green Comma is smaller with a darker-more patterned underside of the hindwings and more of a forest dweller (as up Milner Pass). Dorsally, the submarginal hindwing spots are distinct, small and occur within a dark marginal band at the edge of the those wings. You will know it looks very much different on the underside than the late flight Hoary. Mike
