Woodland Skipper
Ochlodes sylvanoides

Observation date: August 09, 2025
Submitted by: Cascade Colors
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I'm really not sure about this one; Female Tawny-edged or Woodland? the Western Branded are out but I'm not seeing the stigma I've seen on others (at least the sharp black line - this is very broad, but maybe it's a stigma too?). Too late for Draco? It looks sort of similar to Juba photos in Bamona but that would be a county record. To me it doesn't look like Sonora.

Coordinator notes: Your second possibility is correct...female Woodland Skipper. Only recently genetics declared the southern populations of this skipper a distinct species (Ochlodes napa...was the subspecies applicable to our region)...BAMONA is continuing with the older names to prevent confusion with various guides and books which is probably a good thing!
