Observation notes: The caterpillar was found sitting on a fireweed plant in our vegetable garden. We live in Northern British Columbia among the boreal forest. None of our reference books (i.e. Audoban Book on North American butterflies and moths) had this particular caterpillar. We have not seen any such before this either.
