Coordinator notes: Wagner suggests that Zale lunata and Z. minerea are indistinguishable as larvae. However, with these feeding on an herbaceous plant, and there being no account of Z. minerea feeding on anything non-woody, I think this provides strong evidence that this specimen should be considered Z. lunata. I am attempting to rear one of the specimens I found to adult. If I am successful, and get an adult, I will update here. I have reared several. The orange mark is typical for late instar Lunata. B.Sendelbach - Thanks!
I have reared an adult and it does turn out to be Zale lunata - 28-Aug - BJD
