European Yellow Underwing
Noctua pronuba

Observation date: July 26, 2025
Submitted by: Geoff Urwin
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Length: 1 3/16" / 3 cm. Collected it and put it in a jar and as it fluttered I could clearly see the yellow underwings. It was residing in my Calibrachoa hanging basket. Does the adult form damage the flowers? I ask this because it exuded a few drops from it's rear and my plant has lost a lot of foliage over the past few days. I first found this individual on 7-23-2025 and have seen it once more when it flew off. This time it was unafraid and stayed put, preferring to crawl deeper into the flowers. I decided to capture it in case it was causing damage to my plant and because it is an introduced species. I am included a picture taken on July 23rd.

Coordinator notes: adult just feeds on nector. Will not damage the plant.
