Coordinator notes: This is the Arachne Checkerspot...a newly emerged female...very nice. She has lighter color markings than commonly seen, especially in the mountains. They usually have wider black spaces between the lighter spotting. The Sagebrush Checkerspot does not occur in the eastern Front Range but occurs in the Arkansas River Valley near Poncha Springs, San Luis Valley and is relatively widespread in the plateau country of western Colorado. We do have the Rocky Mountain Checkerspot (Chlosyne palla calydon) in the Front Range and is quite similar but darker. You can look both up on the BAMONA site. Very nice photos.
