Pearl Crescent
Phyciodes tharos

Observation notes: When looking at this individual, the first thing I was drawn to is that it has *two* black spots inside orange approaching the trailing edge of the forewing. The only two species on BONM that have this feature are the Great Plains Crescent and the Pearl (although it appears very faint on the Pearl). To my eye, the markings on the forewing cells don't much resemble Pearl, but instead look closer to Field and Great Plains. I'm not sure on Field because of the aforementioned black spots, and because of the slightly different arc of the pale median band as it leads to the forewing trailing edge and of the submarginal band as it rises and tapers toward the forewing leading edge. These are tiny observations, and Great Plains is a bold (and maybe misguided) suggestion. I wish this individual weren't so tattered, and that I'd been able to get a ventral shot.

Coordinator notes: Your choice was bold indeed, and I admire it, but the antennas are not orange as specified for orantain. First, note it is a female, and a worn one at that. Before reaching wide for orantain, consider females of crescents you have there: Northern, Mylitta, Pearl. To my eye, seems like a good match for Pearl, which has at least one of the 2 small black dots.
