Observation date: July 14, 2025
Submitted by: Cactuswren1976
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Flying, alighting on a blooming Texas Yucca plant, and taking nectar from its blossoms. It flew off and then quickly returned to take in nectar again. Even though the trailing edges of its wings were quite damaged/ragged, this individual was extremely large (estimated to have a 5.5-inch wingspan at least) and seemingly the largest butterfly I have yet seen in New Mexico!

Coordinator notes: pretty shredded, but narrow black stripes point to this rather than western tiger.
