Observation date: July 11, 2025
Submitted by: Cascade Colors
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: The final one seems different from the others (more colorful and also forewing doesn't seem as pointed?), but I'm not sure what else it would be besides a purplish/mountain (probably too low in elevation for lustrous?). They were pretty abundant all along the 2 mile stretch of trail I did, though I placed the marker roughly where I saw the final pic.

Coordinator notes: Your ID is correct...I verified as "Dorcas" because that is the species florus is placed when not accepted as a species-level taxon but I have explained most of this before about Purplish Coppers. The bottom photo is a female (top 3 are the male)...more unusual to see a female with that much orange but it probably attests to a mix of genes from populations down lower. Most "Mountain Copper" females have a minor amount of orange on the upper wings. Mike
