  Sighting 1405797

Observation date: June 15, 2025
Submitted by: Blablancwillis
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I'm still gobsmacked by this photo. I've never seen a Gray Comma until this year, and I've actually seen quite a few since spring. I usually see a few Mourning Cloaks every year, but never on a flower, and never posing with another unusual butterfly. Gobsmacked.

Coordinator notes: I perhaps mentioned this before to you if you had submitted a photo of P. progne before. I lived in Reno County KS for quite a few years and saw one very fresh P. progne, but only once and never again. So they are probably very local in occurrence in Kansas. Also, you could have submitted another photo for the Mourning Cloak and I would have approved that one as well. Thanks! JAMES STEEN
