Taxiles Skipper
Poanes taxiles

Observation date: June 30, 2025
Submitted by: Jennbzrask
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Observed in a backyard setting in a suburban area in Broomfield Colorado. The butterfly was perched on outdoor furniture near flowering plants. There are mature trees and some shade nearby, as well as access to water from a nearby fountain. I took photos and looked it up since I had never noticed this species. I understand it is rare to see them in this area, so I thought I would share.

Coordinator notes: Thanks Jenn...in Colorado we have the Taxiles Skipper...yours is a male...it looks like the Zabulon Skipper but that skipper is similar one in the Eastern U.S. and was once thought to possibly be the same as taxiles but genetics has proved that is not the case. Also, genetics has shown neither skipper belongs to the genus Poanes and was assigned a new one...Lon a few years ago. New names are yet to be loaded onto the names menu on the BAMONA website but that is primarily because it could be quite confusing...like is it for me sometimes! Mike
