Coordinator notes: In Colorado we have Weidemeyer's Admiral which is similar to but different than the White Admiral that occurs in the northern part of the U.S. east of Colorado but also across much of Canada to Alaska. We do get the dark form of the White Admiral - the Red-spotted Purple but it is a very rare butterfly this far west in eastern Colorado and it ranges most commonly in the eastern and southern US where it mimics the Pipevine Swallowtail (which is inedible to birds)...this is also a rarely seen butterfly in eastern Colorado.
